The ‘Buxton Mountain Time Trial (TT)’ organised by Buxton Cycling Club is an early season open TT over a very hilly circuit in the Peak District and is renowned as being one of the toughest time trials in the UK. The course is based round a circuit starting and finishing in the village of Longnor and consists of 3 laps of 11 miles for the Men and Veterans and 2 laps for the Women and Juniors.
The event traditionally takes place on Good Friday this year being the 29th March 2012.
Last year saw the event run in the aftermath of some of the most extreme weather to hit the UK and I found myself on the start line ready to complete a punishing 3 laps! I was absolutely freezing in my shorts!! On the final ascent up Hollinsclough I passed Gwill Morris from Manchester Wheelers and asked how he was doing? He turned to me and simply said “I am in the Pain Cave!”… I knew exactly where that was!! The event was won by Matthew Bottrill in a very quick 1hr 26m 34s,
